Exclusive: Nine Ashes Heroes Return to BBL, But Three Big Names Sit Out
The BBL is set to welcome back a host of Australia's Ashes-winning heroes, but three key players will miss the entire competition. The returning stars include Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Todd Murphy, Steve Smith, Jake Weatherald, and Beau Webster, all set to rejoin their respective teams from January 10th onwards. However, the absence of Scott Boland, Travis Head, and Cameron Green is notable, as they played all five Ashes Tests and are now focusing on recovery.
Green, who is currently unsigned, is managing his workloads after a back surgery, while Boland and Head are taking a short break. The remaining Ashes squad members, including Michael Neser and Mitch Starc, will return between January 14th and 16th, allowing them a brief respite before rejoining the action. Cricket Australia's general manager, Ben Oliver, expressed pride in the team's performance, highlighting the intense nature of the Ashes series and the players' dedication to recovery and preparation for future international commitments, including the ICC T20 World Cup.
The BBL general manager, Alistair Dobson, praised the players' commitment, stating, 'We are delighted to have a number of Australian Test players entering the competition from tomorrow night, and we thank them for their dedication to the BBL.'
The competition is set to continue with record crowds and broadcast audiences, delivering outstanding cricket and fan experiences. The BBL's popularity and impact on Australian cricket are undeniable, and the return of these stars will undoubtedly boost the tournament's excitement and engagement.
